MAKING ELECTRICAL

CONNECTIONS
Effective January 1, 1996, the National Electrical Code
requires that new, but not existing, construction utilize a
four-conductor connection to an electric range. When
installing an electric range in new construction, follow the
instructions in NEW CONSTRUCTION AND FOUR-
CONDUCTOR BRANCH CIRCUIT CONNECTION.
You must use a three-wire, single-phase AC 208Y/120 Volt
or 240/120 Volt, 60 Hertz electrical system with separate
ground. If you connect to aluminum wiring, properly
installed connectors approved for use with aluminum
wiring must be used.
New construction and four-conductor
branch circuit connection
• When installing in new construction, or
• When installing in a mobile home, or
• When local codes do not permit grounding through
neutral:
4-Conductor Branch Circuit
When connecting the cooktop to a 4-conductor circuit,
connect the red leads of the cooktop and the power
supply to the branch circuit red lead; connect the black
leads to each other. Connect the cooktop white lead to the
power supply and branch circuit neutral leads, which are
white or gray. Ground the unit by connecting the green
conductor of the cooktop to the bare or green leads of the
power supply and branch circuit (ground leads).
