blade retains its balance if the same amount of material
is removed from both cutting edges.

2. Check the balance of the blade by putting it on a blade
balancer (Figure 79). If the blade stays in a horizontal
position, the blade is balanced and can be used. If the
blade is not balanced, file some metal off the end of
the sail area only (Figure 77). Repeat this procedure
until the blade is balanced.

Leveling the Mower Deck

Preparing the Machine
1. Position mower on a flat surface.
2. Disengage the PTO, move the motion control levers to
the neutral locked position and set the parking brake.
3. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all moving
parts to stop before leaving the operating position.
4. Check the tire pressure of both drive tires. If needed,
adjust to 13 psi (90 kPa)
5. Lower the mower to the 76 mm (3 inch) height-of-cut
position.
Note: The actual cutting height will not be
adjusted until the deck has been leveled. Refer to
Matching the Height of Cut (page 53).
6. Check the distance between the swivels, measure at the
center of the swivels (center-to-center length) on each
threaded rod. Ensure the length is 49.5 cm (19-1/2
inches) for 36 inch mower decks and 43.7 cm (17-3/16
inches) for 40 inch mower decks (Figure 81).
