1.2.4 Mode switch

The mode switch allows you to switch between modes of your TG234:
Station:
Choose this mode when the TG234 is acting as a 5 GHz wireless client. The Ethernet port of the TG234 will be
connected to your network client (typically a set-top box).
Access Point:
Choose this mode when the TG234 is acting as a 5 GHz wireless access point. The Ethernet port of the TG234 will be
connected directly to your Internet gateway, the other can be used to connect an Ethernet device to your Internet
gateways network.
Repeater:
Choose this mode when the TG234 is acting as a 5 GHz wireless repeater.
Auto:
The TG234 will automatically select the correct mode (station, access point or repeater) depending on the current
connection conditions.
For more information, see
After moving the switch to another mode, turn off the TG234 and turn it back on. The TG234 will then activate the
new mode at start up.
How the TG234 chooses the correct mode when switched to Auto
The TG234 will switch to:
Station mode if the TG234 was connected to an Ethernet device (for example: a set-top box) at start-up.
Access point mode if the TG234 was connected to a gateway or router (or similar) at start-up.
Repeater mode if the TG234 is wirelessly connected to an access point and no device is connected to the Ethernet port.
This can happen in the either of the following cases:
After successfully running WPS with no devices connected to the TG234 Ethernet port.
After removing the cable when the device was in Station mode.
When the TG234 is in station mode and you selected the Repeater check box in the TG234 GUI.
