7.3   D eployment   T asks   –   I nstalling   a nd   C onfiguring   a   n ew   C omputer   L ab  
For   t his   e xample,   w e   w ill   g o   t hrough   t he   s teps   o f   i nitially   d eploying   a   s eries   o f   d evices,   v erifying   t heir  
connectivity   a nd   p erforming   s ome   i nitial   c onfiguration   t asks.   T hese   a ctions   d emonstrate   t he   u se   o f   t he  
following   v Space   c onsole   f eatures:  
Performing   a   f irmware   u pdate   o n   m ultiple   d evices   s imultaneously  
Storing   a nd   a pplying   a   d evice   p rofile   t o   m ultiple   d evices   s imultaneously  
 
The   S cenario:  
A   s chool   i s   a dding   a   l ab   w ith   a n   a dditional   2 0-­‐devices   t o   t heir   e xisting   N Computing   d eployment.   T o  
expedite   t he   d eployment   p rocess,   t hey   w ill   p erform   a s   m any   t asks   a s   t hey   c an   f rom   t he   h ost   r ather   t han  
configuring   i ndividual   d evices.    
 
Step   1   –   C onnect   a nd   C onfigure   t he   F irst   D evice  
After   c reating   a   h ost   s ystem   w ith   s ufficient   h ardware   r esources   f or   t he   i ntended   u ser   l oad,   a nd  
completing   t he   v Space   i nstallation   a nd   r egistration   p rocess   o utlined   i n   1 .1   I nstalling   v Space   a nd   1 .2  
Registering   v Space   o f   t his   g uide,   t he   a dministrator   c onnects   t he   f irst   d evice   t o   t he   h ost   c reated   f or   t his  
lab.   T his   d evice   w ill   s erve   a s   t he   t emplate   f or   t he   r est   o f   t he   d evices   i n   t he   l ab.    
 
Once   c onnected,   t he   a dministrator   l ocates   t he   d evice   f rom   t he   h ost   u nder   t he   L -­‐series   D evice   l ist   ( 5.1   L -­‐
series   o f   t his   g uide).   T he   a dministrator   r ight-­‐clicks   o n   t he   d evice   a nd   t hen   s elects   " Update   D evice  
Firmware"   t o   i nitiate   a   f irmware   u pdate   o n   t he   s elected   d evice.   O nce   t hat   p rocess   i s   c omplete   a nd   t he  
device   r eboots,   t he   a dministrator   c an   d ouble-­‐click   o n   t he   d evice   a nd   c onfigure   i t   a s   d esired   ( 5.3

Step   2   –   S tore   t he   F irst   D evice's   C onfiguration   P rofile  
After   c ompleting   t he   c onfiguration   p rocess   o n   t he   s elected   d evice,   t he   a dministrator   c an   t hen   r ight-­‐click  
on   t he   d evice   i n   t he   L -­‐series   D evices   l ist   o f   t he   c onsole   a nd   s elect   " Store   C onfiguration   P rofile"   ( 5.12  
Creating   P rofiles   o f   t his   g uide)   t o   s ave   t his   c onfiguration   f or   u se   o n   t he   r est   o f   t he   d evices   i n   t he   l ab.    
 
Step   3   –   C onnect   a nd   C onfigure   t he   R emaining   D evices  
It   i s   n ow   t ime   t o   c onnect   t he   r emaining   d evices.   O nce   t he   d evices   a re   c onnected,   t he   a dministrator   c an  
perform   a   f irmware   u pdate   o n   a ll   o f   t hem   s imultaneously   b y   s electing   t he   g roup   a nd   i nitiating   a  
firmware   u pdate   a s   o utlined   i n   S tep   3 .    
 
Once   t he   d evices   h ave   c ompleted   t heir   f irmware   u pdate,   t he   a dministrator   c an   t hen   a pply   t he   f irst  
device's   C onfiguration   P rofile   t o   t he   r emaining   g roup   i n   o ne   s tep   b y   a gain   r ight-­‐clicking   o n   t he   g roup  
and   s electing   " Apply   C onfiguration   P rofile"   ( as   d escribed   i n   5 .14   A pplying   P rofiles   o f   t his   g uide).
