Notes
The BMW CD player is officially desig-
nated a Class 1 laser product. Do not
remove the cover from the housing. Never use it
if the cover is damaged, otherwise there is a risk
of serious eye injuries.
Do not use CDs with adhesive labels that have
been affixed subsequently, as these may peel
off while in the drive as a result of the tempera-
tures to which these media are exposed during
playing, and could damage the system irrepara-
bly.
Use only round CDs with a standard diameter of
12 cm, approx. 5 in, and do not use CDs in con-
junction with adapters, e.g. CD singles, other-
wise the CDs or the adapter could jam and be
impossible to
eject.<

General malfunctions
The BMW CD player is optimised for operation
inside the vehicle. It may react with more sensi-
tivity to defective CDs than devices for station-
ary application.
If a CD cannot be played, first check whether it
is correctly inserted into the drive.
Atmospheric humidity
Due to high atmospheric humidity the CD or the
focusing lens for laser beam can be misty and
as a result it may be impossible to play it for a
while.
Malfunctions with individual CDs
If malfunctions occur only with individual CDs,
this can have one of the following causes.
Self-recorded CDs
Causes of malfunctions with self-recorded CDs
are, e.g. non-uniform data-creation and copying
methods as well as low quality or rapid ageing of
the blank disc being used.
Only write on the upper side of CDs using a spe-
cial marker pen.
Damaged CDs
Avoid causing fingerprints and protect against
dust, scratches and moisture.
Store CDs in a case.
Do not expose CDs to temperatures in excess
of 506/1227, high atmospheric humidity and
direct sunlight.
CDs with copy protection
CDs are often copy-protected by the manufac-
turer. This could result in CDs being impossible
to play, or only playable with restrictions.
