7.8 Charge-Air Cooling

7.8.1 Intercooler – Check water drain for coolant discharge and obstruction
DANGER
Rotating and moving engine parts.
Risk of crushing, danger of parts of the body being caught or pulled in!
• Only run the engine at low power. Keep away from the engine's danger zone.
WARNING
High level of engine noise when the engine is running.
Risk of damage to hearing!
• Wear ear protectors.
WARNING
Compressed air gun ejects a jet of pressurized air.
Risk of injury to eyes and damage to hearing, risk of rupturing internal organs!
• Never direct air jet at people.
• Always wear safety goggles/face mask and ear defenders.
Checking intercooler water
drain for coolant discharge and
obstruction
1.
With the engine running check the drain
bore(s) on the right and left of the engine
for emerging air (at driving end). If no air
emerges:
2.
Clean drain bore(s) and blow out with com-
pressed air.
3.
Significant coolant discharge indicates a
leaking intercooler. Contact Service.
Emergency measures prior to engine start with a leaking intercooler
1.
Remove injectors (→ Page 153).
2.
Bar engine manually (→ Page 139).
3.
Bar engine with starting system to blow out cylinder chambers (→ Page 139).
4.
Install injectors (→ Page 153).
