TIRE REPLACEMENT

The rubber in your vehicle's tires
degrades over time, even if the
tires are not used. Various factors
affect how quickly rubber
degrades. Driving speeds, road
conditions, temperatures, vehicle
loading, and inflation pressure
maintenance all affect how the
tires on your vehicle age.
If maintained properly according
to the maintenance schedule, the
tires on your vehicle will most
likely require replacement before
they become degraded due to
age.

Your tires have tread wear
indicators . They tell you when
a tire has 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) or
less of tread left.
If you can see the tread wear
indicators at three places around
the tire, as in this picture, you need
a new tire. Here are other things
that mean you need to get a new
tire:
• The tread or sidewall is
cracked, cut or snagged deep
enough to show cord or fabric.
• The tire has a bump, bulge or
split.
Note: Some commercial truck tires
may not have tread wear indica-
tors.
The tire information label says
what size tires you need.
To determine the location of your
vehicle's tire information label, see
"Vehicle Loading" in Section 3.
It is recommended that you
replace all four tires at the same
time.
Replacing fewer than four tires at
one time can affect the braking
and handling performance of your
vehicle.
When replacing tires, you should
use the same size, load range,
speed rating and construction
type as the original tires on the
vehicle.
