Checking SparkPlug
DONOT checkfor sparkwith sparkplugremoved. D ONOT crankengine with
sparkplug removed.
If the enginehasbeenrunning, t he muffler will beveryhot. Becareful not
to touchthe muffler.
NOTE: C heck the sparkplugonceaseason orevery25 hours of operation. C hange
the sparkplugonceaseason orevery100hours.Toensure properengineoperation,
the sparkplug mustbeproperlygapped andfreeof deposits.

Remove t he sparkplugbootandusea sparkplugwrenchto remove the
plug.SeeFigure 17.

Visuallyinspect t he sparkplug.Discard t he sparkplugif thereisapparent
wear, o r if the insulatoriscracked or chipped.Clean the sparkplug with a
wirebrushif it isto bereused.
NOTE: An F6RTC s parkplug mustbeusedfor replacement. ForSears
purchase, visita Sears Parts & RepairCenter o r call1-888-331-4569. Askfor
replacement sparkplug951-10292.
Measure the pluggapwith afeelergauge. C orrect asnecessary b ybending
sideelectrode. S eeFigure 18.Thegapshouldbesetto 0.020-0.030 i nches
(0.60-0.80 mm).

Check thatthe sparkplug washer isingoodconditionandthreadthe spark
plugin byhandto preventcross-threading.
5.
Afterthe sparkplug isseated, t ightenwith asparkplugwrenchto compress
the washer.
NOTE: Wheninstallinganewsparkplug,tighten 1/2-turnafter thespark
plugseats to compress t he washer. W henreinstallingausedsparkplug,
tighten 1/8- to 1/4-turnafterthe sparkplugseats to compress t he washer.
