General information on the programme guide

What is the programme guide?
The programme guide (referred hereinafter as EPG) is an editorially prepared programme guide of the
latest generation. It provides all EPG information for around 160 TV channels free of charge, without you
having to change channel, and also offers schedule information up to two weeks in advance.
Which channels are supported by the EPG?
You can see which channels are supported by the EPG in the channel list (see section "Basic operation
in TV or radio mode (live operation)", "Channel selection from the channel list"). Channels supported are
indicated by the broadcaster logos, but you also have the option of displaying a tvtv channel list (this is
only operational once an EPG update has been performed).
Are there limitations with the EPG?
Due to the large amount of data being transmitted, the receiver cannot store all the data for the channels
supported by the EPG. The receiver confi guration is therefore factory-set to accept tvtv data for a limited
number of channels only. Refer to the section "Edit TV-Channellist" "Editing channels (channel lists)"
"tvtv (on/off)" for details on how to edit this preconfi gured list. The more channels are added to this list,
the less tvtv data is available for them due to system restrictions.
Where does the EPG data come from?
The EPG is broadcast via the ASTRA satellite at a frequency of 12,603.75 MHz, at a symbol rate of
22 MSymb/s and horizontal polarisation (18 V). If you have accidentally deleted the transponder at
this frequency, you will need to start a new satellite and transponder scan for the ASTRA satellite
(see "Search Channels").
Could something other than the receiver be preventing the EPG from working?
In case of receivers not produced by Kathrein, it may happen that EPG data cannot be transmitted.
With such systems, the necessary transponder (12,603.75 MHz, symbol rate 22 MSymb, horizontal) is
not being transmitted. To test this out, select the channel "WDR Bonn" since this broadcast on the same
transponder as the EPG data.
What about EPG data for broadcasters that are not broadcast via ASTRA?
For broadcasters that broadcast using the "HOTBIRD 13° East" satellite you must perform an additional
channel search using that satellite. An exception here are broadcasters supported by tvtv. These also
support EPG data via ASTRA.
Information on current or subsequent programmes is only visible in the EPG only
if this data has been made available/broadcast by tvtv or by the channel provider.
If no EPG data is available, the receiver displays the message "No data available"
instead of showing information on the current programme.
tvtv data is not available immediately after fi rst installation. The data is only updated/loaded after
the fi rst EPG update at night or the fi rst time you switch the receiver to standby mode.
