The "multicollision brake assist system" acts
in frontal,
side
and rear collisions when
the
airbag control unit detects a threshold trigger
condition
during an accident and the accident
occurs at a road speed in excess of 10 km/h.
The
ESC
will automatically brake the vehicle
(unless the ESC, hydraulic brake system or ve-
hicle's electrical
system
have been damaged
during the accident).
The following conditions override the auto-
matic brake application in an accident:
- There is no automatic braking if the
driver
presses
the accelerator.
- The
vehicle
is
braked
manually
if the brake
pressure
applied by pressing the
brake pedal
is
higher
than the brake pressure
Initiated
by
the
system.
-
The "multicollision
brake
assist system" is
not available if an ESC malfunction occurs.
.&.
WARNING
- The
grip provided by the ESC, ABS,
ASR,
EDL,
electronic limited-slip differential
and selective
wheel torque
control sys-
tems is still subject to
the physical
limits
of adhesion. Always bear this in mind,
especially on wet or slippery roads.
If
you
notice
the systems cutting in, you should
reduce
your speed immediately
to
suit
the road and
traffic
conditions. Do not

-
this
can cause accidents.
-
Remember that the accident risk always
increases if you drive fast, especially in
corners or on a wet or slippery road, or if
you follow too close behind the vehicle in
front of you. Please bear in mind
that
even
ESC,
ABS, brake assist, EDL, elec-
tronic
limited slip differential, selective
wheel torque
control and ASR cannot
compensate
for
the
increased accident
risk.
- When accelerating
on a
uniformly
slip-
pery
surface
(for instance
all four
wheels
on Ice or
snow),
press the
accelerator
gradually
and carefully.
The driven
wheels may
otherwise start
to
spin
(in
spite
of the
integrated control systems),
which would impair
the car's stability
and could lead to an accident
.

Note
- To ensure
that
the
ABS
and ASR systems
work properly, all four wheels must be
fitted with
identical
tyres.
Any differen-
ces in the rolling radius of the tyres can
cause
the
system to reduce engine power
when
this
is not desired.
-
The
systems can make noises
when
they
intervene.
-
If the indicator
lamp

appears,
there
may be a

The
ESC operates in several levels.
Depending
on
which level is selected,
the
stabilising
func-
tion <Qf the ESC is
restricted
or switched off,
and
the
vehicle
is
stabilised to a greater or
lesser degree.
In the following special
situations,
it may be
advisable to switch on the ESC sport mode to
allow a certain amount of wheel
spin:
-
Rocking the
