Removing the towing eye
X
Loosen the towing eye and unscrew it.

Position top of cover : in the bumper
and press it in at the bottom until it
engages.

Place the towing eye in the vehicle tool
kit stowage compartment in the front-
passenger footwell (
Towing the vehicle with the rear axle
raised
When towing your vehicle with the rear axle
raised, it is important that you observe the
safety instructions (
! The ignition must be switched off if you
are towing the vehicle with the rear axle
raised. Intervention by ESP

Bring the front wheels into the straight-
ahead position.
X
Turn the key to position 0 in the ignition
lock and remove the key from the ignition
lock.

When leaving the vehicle, take the key
with you.

the ground

In order to signal a change of direction
when towing with the hazard warning
lamps switched on, use the combination
switch as usual. In this case, only the
turn signals for the desired direction
flash. When you reset the combination
switch, the hazard warning lamps start
flashing again.

Make sure that the vehicle is stationary.

Turn the key to position 2 in the ignition
lock.

Depress and hold the brake pedal.

Leave the key in position 2 in the igni-
tion lock.

Release the brake pedal.

Transporting the vehicle
! You may only secure the vehicle by the
wheels, not by parts of the vehicle such as
axle or steering components. Otherwise,
the vehicle could be damaged.

Turn the key to position 2 in the ignition
lock.
As soon as the vehicle is loaded:
X
Prevent the vehicle from rolling away by
applying the parking brake.
X
Turn the key to position 0 in the ignition
lock and remove it.
X
Secure the vehicle.
The towing eye can be used to pull the vehi-
cle onto a trailer or transporter for trans-
porting purposes.

Before tow-starting the following condi-
tions must be fulfilled:
the battery is connected.

the engine has cooled down.
