Network File Sharing Application Note

Network File Sharing Overview
The ZyXEL Device with USB interface allows you to share a file storage device with USB (2.0 or lower)
interface so that they may be accessed by the network user. The ZyXEL Device uses Common Internet
File System (CIFS) protocol for network file sharing. CIFS is supported on MS Windows, Linux Samba
and other operating system.
Note: A USB file storage device can be a USB memory stick or a portable hard drive with a USB
interface. A network user can originated from either LAN side or WAN side.
Sharing Files via the ZyXEL Device
Note: Currently the ZyXEL Devices only support file format FAT12, FAT16, and FAT32.
STEP 1: Connect a USB storage device to one of the ZyXEL Device's USB port. The ZyXEL Device
detects the USB storage device and allocates the partition for sharing.
STEP 2: Configures a user account. This account will be used for authentication accessing the share
folder.
