DECT Application Note

DECT Overview
The ZyXEL Device has a build in Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) base station.
You can register maximum up to 6 DECT GAP phone (1.9G) with the ZyXEL Device. You can use the
DECT phone to make internal calls to other DECT phone registered with the same ZyXEL Device. You
can also use the DECT phone to make VoIP call. For the ZyXEL Device with Lifeline feature, you can
also make calls via the PSTN line.
The DECT base station inside ZyXEL Device follows the Generic Access Profile (GAP). GAP is a subset
of DECT which specifies how DECT phones register with a DECT base station. The DECT GAP ensures
that a phone and a base station from different manufacturers can work correctly.
How to Register a DECT Phone with the ZyXEL Device?
In order to use your DECT phone with the ZyXEL Device, the DECT phone must register with the
ZyXEL Device's base station firstly by following these steps:
STEP 1: Configure DECT Phone function in the ZyXEL Device by click VoIP > Phone > DECT Phone.
Select the SIP account(s) which you are going to use for outgoing call. Specify the source for incoming
calls. Select Update Register PIN Code, enter the old PIN Code and new PIN Code followed by Apply to
renew the Register Pin Code.
Note: The factory default Register Pin Code is 1234. Once Register Pin Code changes, entire previously
registered DECT phones will have to re-register after device reboot again.
