Recording to a VCR or Digital Video
Recorder
You can copy your recordings by
connecting the camcorder to a VCR or a
digital video device. When recording to a
digital video recorder using the HDV/DV
terminal, you can copy recordings with
virtually no generation loss in video and
sound quality.
Connect the camcorder to the external
device following one of the connection
diagrams shown in the previous section

Connecting
Connect the camcorder to a VCR or other
analog device using connection type

or to a DVD recorder or other digital
recording device using connection type

Recording

This camcorder: Load the recorded
cassette.

Connected device: Load a blank
cassette or disc and set the device
to record pause mode.

This camcorder: Locate the scene
you wish to copy and pause the
playback shortly before the scene.

This camcorder: Resume the movie
playback.
• When the connection is recognized
"~HDV/DV"
will be displayed. When
the video output starts the display will
change to
"~HDV-OUT"
or
"~DV­
OUT" depending on the original
recording and the settings selected.
• When using an analog connection
you can include in the copy also the
date, time and data code of the original
recording. Repeatedly press
[Ql§£.J
to
change the on-screen display (CO 50).

Connected device: Begin recording
when the scene you wish to copy
appears. Stop recording when
copying is complete.
Settings for Recording Video Output using the HDV/DV Terminal
Change the following settings as
necessary before making the
connections. Refer to the corresponding
explanation of each setting in the
!II.
PLAY/OUT SETUP menu option list
(CO 34).
- [PLAYBACK STO] to select the output video
standard.
- [OV OUTPUT] to select the standard of the
output video when using connection type

Note that the video standard of the recorded
copy depends also on the standards supported
by the external digital device. Refer to the table
below.
