R e p l a c i n g W i n d o w Glass
T h e c o n s t r u c t i o n o f the d o o r a n d b o d y w i n d o w s differ some-
w h a t from each other, m a k i n g i t necessary to use a different
procedure for r e m o v i n g a n d i n s t a l l i n g t h e m .
T h e i r r e m o v a l
a n d i n s t a l l a t i o n , however, is n o t difficult w h e n the
p r o p e r
procedure is k n o w n a n d followed.
T h e replacement of the w i n d o w glass c a n be performed
w i t h o u t d i s t u r b i n g the N o - D r a f t v e n t i l a t o r assembly.
F r o n t D o o r W i n d o w s
T o remove the w i n d o w glass from b o t h the first a n d second
t y p e front doors, proceed as follows:
1. R e m o v e g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g , belt finishing panel a n d i n -
side d o o r handles, i n c l u d i n g the v e n t i l a t o r c o n t r o l h a n d l e .
2. L o o s e n t r i m a r o u n d w i n d o w a n d s l i g h t l y below l o c k
b o a r d filler b o a r d .
3. R e m o v e filler b o a r d a n d lock p i l l a r corner b l o c k at t o p
o f b o a r d .
4. L o o s e n t r i m at b o t t o m of door j u s t far enough u p t o
reach the w i n d o w lift c a m (See F i g s . 1 a n d 2, P l a t e 7 A ) a t the
lower edge of the glass w i t h the glass i n its lowest p o s i t i o n .
R e m o v a l o f t h e t r i m e n t i r e l y is n o t recommended as i t w o u l d
then be necessary t o relocate the t r i m o n the d o o r w h e n i n -
s t a l l i n g i t .
5. R e m o v e r e t a i n i n g screws i n lift c a m a n d
p u l l
c a m
s l i g h t l y a w a y from b r a c k e t o n glass channel.
6. R e m o v e first screw at lower end of glass r u n c h a n n e l .
( F i r s t t y p e front doors o n l y . )
7. R e m o v e glass r u n channel from second t y p e front d o o r s ;
A l s o loosen v e r t i c a l d i v i s i o n channel a t b o t t o m e n d a n d s w i n g
o u t s l i g h t l y t o clear glass.
8. R a i s e glass a l l the w a y u p o u t o f the w i n d o w o p e n i n g ,
p u l l i n g the t o p edge out j u s t enough to clear the door.
9. R e m o v e m e t a l channel from o l d glass for i n s t a l l a t i o n o n
new glass w h e n e v e r the glass is to be replaced.
Install the front d o o r glass i n the opposite o r d e r o f i t s re-
m o v a l .
Install the garnish m o u l d i n g as explained i n N o t e 19.
Rear D o o r W i n d o w s
T h e r e m o v a l a n d i n s t a l l a t i o n o f the rear d o o r w i n d o w glass
can be a c c o m p l i s h e d s i m p l y b y r e m o v i n g the g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g
a n d the glass r u n channel, r u n n i n g the glass u p a n d d i s -
engaging the glass channel from the w i n d o w regulator o p e r a -
ting a r m .
If the glass is to be replaced, the m e t a l channel s h o u l d be
removed from the o l d glass a n d installed o n the n e w glass.
T h e glass is installed i n the opposite w a y from its r e m o v a l .
The g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g , however, s h o u l d be installed as ex-
plained i n N o t e 19.
R e a r Q u a r t e r W i n d o w s
T h e rear quarter w i n d o w s are s t a t i o n a r y a n d their replace-
ment is merely a m a t t e r of r e m o v i n g a n d i n s t a l l i n g the glass
a n d channel assembly.
T h e removal o f the glass a n d channel
assembly is accomplished b y p u l l i n g it o u t o f the w i n d o w
o p e n i n g t h r o u g h the inside of the body after first r e m o v i n g the
g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g , loosening the t r i m a r o u n d the w i n d o w a n d
r e m o v i n g the retaining screws in the glass c h a n n e l .
These
screws are i n d i c a t e d by the short arrows in F i g . 2, P l a t e 7 B .
T h e glass is installed in the reverse order o f its r e m o v a l
except t h a t the glass channel should be sealed i n place w i t h
: Information
F S - 7 4 5 rubber d o u g h .
T h e g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g s h o u l d also be
installed as e x p l a i n e d i n N o t e 19.
B a c k W i n d o w
T h e b a c k w i n d o w glass a n d c h a n n e l assembly is retained i n
place b y
the g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g w h i c h
is installed
under
pressure.
T o remove the glass, therefore, it is s i m p l y a m a t t e r
of r e m o v i n g the g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g after t u r n i n g the retaining
screws a l l the w a y out, a n d p u l l i n g the w i n d o w a n d c h a n n e l
assembly o u t t o w a r d s the front o f the car.
Before d o i n g this
be sure to remove the rear seat c u s h i o n to a v o i d d a m a g i n g i t .
T h e glass channel s h o u l d be r e m o v e d from the o l d glass for
i n s t a l l a t i o n o n the new glass whenever the glass is to be re-
placed.
W h e n i n s t a l l i n g the rear w i n d o w glass a n d channel assembly
seal i t i n place w i t h N o . 60 more-tite b e d d i n g p u t t y .
A l s o
m a k e sure t h a t the r u b b e r weather s t r i p s h o w i n g outside of
the c a r is even a l l a r o u n d the w i n d o w opening.
A n y u n -
eveness c a n be corrected b y s h i m m i n g o n the inside.
T h e
g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g is t h e n i n s t a l l e d a n d pressed firmly against
the glass w h i l e fastening i t i n place.
T o o l , P a r t N o . B - I 7 7 , s h o u l d be used t o press the g a r n i s h
m o u l d i n g firmly i n place w h i l e i n s t a l l i n g the r e t a i n i n g screws.
C a r e s h o u l d be t a k e n w h e n u s i n g this tool n o t to exert too
m u c h pressure against the p i l l a r posts as t h e y m a y be s p r u n g ,
p r e v e n t i n g the doors from c l o s i n g p r o p e r l y .

R e p l a c i n g W i n d s h i e l d G l a s s
T h e w i n d s h i e l d is o f the s o l i d , non-adjustable type o n a l l
closed bodies.
T h e glass is c a r r i e d i n a rubber weather s t r i p
w h i c h is h e l d i n place b y the g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g .
T h e w i n d -
shield glass is r e m o v e d as follows:
1. R e m o v e g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g . ( D o not d i s t u r b lower p a n e l
o n t o p rear face of i n s t a l m e n t board.)
2. R e m o v e m e t a l c l i p s o n pillars, w h i c h h o l d w i n d s h i e l d
glass i n place.
3. P u l l top of glass b a c k t o clear header b o a r d a n d lift o u t
o f lower weather s t r i p .
T h e w i n d s h i e l d glass is i n s t a l l e d i n the following m a n n e r :
1. P l a c e a l i t t l e vaseline o n the lower edge of the glass a n d
i n s t a l l i t i n the l o w e r w e a t h e r s t r i p .
A d d i t i o n a l help m a y be required to enter the glass in the
weather s t r i p c h a n n e l as i t is necessary t o open the c h a n n e l
from b o t h sides of the glass w i t h screw d r i v e r s o r some o t h e r
f o r m o f flat t o o l .
2. P u s h t o p o f glass f o r w a r d i n t o p o s i t i o n a n d install m e t a l
c l i p s t o k e e p i t i n place.
3. S e a l lower r i g h t a n d left corners of w i n d s h i e l d where
cutouts are m a d e for w i p e r t u b e a n d aerial lead-in w i r e .
T o
do this p l u g the openings w i t h c o t t o n , pressing it firmly i n
place. A l s o p a c k some a d d i t i o n a l c o t t o n i n b a c k o f the weather
s t r i p p i n g for about t w o inches u p from the lower edge of the
glass.
'1 hen coat the c o t t o n w i t h F S - 7 4 5 rubber d o u g h .
It is
also advisable t o seal the w i n d s h i e l d glass in position b y
c o a t i n g the front side a n d edges o f the glass channel w i t h
rubber d o u g h .
4. I n s t a l l g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g .
In order to m a k e the w i n d s h i e l d leak-proof, the g a r n i s h
m o u l d i n g m u s t be pressed
firmly
against the weather s t r i p
while fastening it i n place. T h i s c a n be accomplished by u s i n g
t o o l . P a r t N o . B - 1 7 7 b r a c e d against the front side o f the d o o r .
T o o m u c h pressure s h o u l d n o t be a p p l i e d against the g a r n i s h
m o u l d i n g as i t m i g h t d a m a g e the m o u l d i n g o r the p i l l a r s o r
break the glass.
