T h e r e m o v a l of this type handle from the finishing panel is
o n l y a m a t t e r o f s t r a i g h t e n i n g o u t o r g r i n d i n g off the lugs o r
r e m o v i n g the screws a n d p u l l i n g i t o u t o f the p a n e l .
W i t h the second t y p e m o u n t i n g the handle l o c k s to the
regulator c o n t r o l shaft w i t h a s m a l l plunger located inside the
hub.
The r e m o v a l of this t y p e handle requires the use o f the
same special tool N o . H M B - 1 2 7 for releasing the l o c k plunger,
as for the inside door handles.
16.
Fastenings for D o o r F i n i s h i n g Panels
The d o o r finishing panels used o n later " C " series C a d i l l a c
cars are h e l d in place b y two h a n g a r plates i n a d d i t i o n to the
bayonet t y p e fastenings used o n earlier cars.
These hangar
plates are a t t a c h e d b y means o f screws t o the rear face o f the
finishing
panel a n d over the regulator b o a r d , a n d the screws
h o l d i n g the plates t o this b o a r d m u s t be removed t o t a k e o u t
the panel.
T h i s c o n s t r u c t i o n assures against loosening.
In a n y case o f the d o o r finishing panel loosening u p o n e a r l y
cars these hangars can be easily installed. T h e parts required
for each panel are as follows:

P o s i t i o n of D o o r H a n d l e s

A t t e n t i o n s h o u l d be g i v e n to the p o s i t i o n of the v a r i o u s
handles o n the doors for the greatest convenience o f the
operator.
A l l handles s h o u l d be placed so t h a t they lock i n the closed
position o n the d o w n w a r d s w i n g . T h i s gives the operator the
most advantageous
leverage i n l o c k i n g the v e n t i l a t o r s
to
prevent leaks.
T h e door w i n d o w regulator handles s h o u l d be p l a c e d in
s u c h a position t h a t they point away from the I. C . V . handle
when the w i n d o w is a l l the w a y up.
T h i s position affords
more clearance between the v e n t i l a t o r handle a n d the w i n d o w
regulator handle when the w i n d o w is a l l the w a y u p o r d o w n .

R e p l a c i n g V e n t i l a t o r A s s e m b l y
T h e replacement of the v e n t i l a t o r assembly necessarily re-
quires the r e m o v a l of the o l d v e n t i l a t o r from the car a n d the
installation o f the new one.
T h i s necessitates the r e m o v a l a n d
installation of the garnish m o u l d i n g , the belt
finishing
p a n e l
(on cars using
finishing
panels) a n d the t r i m .
It is not
necessary, however, to remove the t r i m panel entirely b u t
merely to loosen it a r o u n d the w i n d o w a n d lock b o a r d , o r
regulator b o a r d as i n the case of the rear quarter w i n d o w s ,
a n d p u l l it a w a y from the door o r b o d y far enough to p r o v i d e
easy access t o the v e n t i l a t o r a n d b o a r d assemblies.
19.
R e p l a c i n g D o o r V e n t i l a t o r s
T h e r e m o v a l a n d i n s t a l l a t i o n of the door v e n t i l a t o r a n d
regulator assemblies are p r a c t i c a l l y the same o n a l l cars.
T h e r e are, however, slight differences in operation between
the first a n d second t y p e front doors a n d also between
the
second type front doors a n d the rear doors.
T h e r e m o v a l a n d
i n s t a l l a t i o n of these assemblies s h o u l d be performed i n the
following w a y .

T h e i n s t a l l a t i o n of the v e n t i l a t o r assemblies a n d regulators
is a c c o m p l i s h e d i n the opposite order of their r e m o v a l .
W h e n i n s t a l l i n g the first t y p e front d o o r v e n t i l a t o r assembly,
be sure to install the m e t a l c l i p at the top end of the weather
s t r i p a n d to n a i l b o t h ends o f the weather s t r i p i n place.
A l s o
seal the v e n t i l a t o r a s s e m b l y i n place w i t h F S - 7 4 5 rubber
d o u g h .
W h e n i n s t a l l i n g the g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g , it is necessary
t o
w o r k the l i p o r flange of the v e n t i l a t o r weather s t r i p o u t o v e r
the garnish m o u l d i n g .
T h i s is rather difficult to do w i t h o u t
d a m a g i n g the weather s t r i p or m o u l d i n g except by the use o l
a h e a v y s t r i n g o r c o r d . See F i g . 3, P l a t e 7 B . T o use the s t r i n g ,
a k n o t is first t i e d i n each end a n d the s t r i n g then w r a p p e d
a r o u n d the weather s t r i p inside o f the flange close to the re-
tainer.
T h e g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g is next installed a n d pressed
firmly
against the weather s t r i p .
W i t h the garnish m o u l d i n g
held in this p o s i t i o n , the s t r i n g is p u l l e d o u t starting at one
e n d , p u l l i n g the flange o u t o v e r the garnish m o u l d i n g .
C a r e
s h o u l d be exercised t o remove the s t r i n g g e n t l y ; otherwise the
weather s t r i p m a y be d a m a g e d .

R e p l a c i n g R e a r Q u a r t e r W i n d o w V e n t i l a t o r
T h e r e m o v a l a n d i n s t a l l a t i o n of the rear quarter w i n d o w
ventilators is p r a c t i c a l l y the same as o n the doors.
The
v e n t i l a t o r regulator,
however,
is more accessible as i t is
m o u n t e d o n a s m a l l b o a r d w h i c h is easily removed,

7. R e m o v e regulator m o u n t i n g b o a r d a n d take off regulator
if necessary.
T h e regulator a n d v e n t i l a t o r assemblies are installed i n the
reverse order of their r e m o v a l .
T h e v e n t i l a t o r assembly s h o u l d be sealed in place w i t h
F S - 7 4 5 rubber d o u g h .
T o install the weather s t r i p between the v e n t i l a t o r glass
a n d the w i n d o w glass, i n s t a l l the ends first a n d then force the
remainder of the s t r i p i n p o s i t i o n , keeping the ends in line w i t h
those of the v e n t i l a t o r weather s t r i p .
W h e n i n s t a l l i n g the g a r n i s h m o u l d i n g , the weather s t r i p
flange a r o u n d b o t h the v e n t i l a t o r a n d the w i n d o w m u s t be
w o r k e d o u t o v e r the m o u l d i n g . T h i s can be accomplished b y
using a h e a v y s t r i n g i n the same manner as o n the front a n d
rear door v e n t i l a t o r s , as e x p l a i n e d i n N o t e 19.
