Troubleshooting

If the camera fails to function as expected, check this list of com-
mon problems before consulting your retailer or Nikon repre-
sentative.

Battery/Display

The camera is on but does not respond:
• Controls are locked (0 195).
• The camera is busy. Wait for recording or any other processing to end.
If the problem persists, turn the camera off. If the camera still does not
respond, remove and replace the battery or disconnect and reconnect
the AC adapter, but note that this will delete any data not yet saved.
Data already saved to the memory card are unaffected.
The display is off:
• The camera is off (0 22) or the battery is exhausted (0 14, 27).
• The display has turned off automatically to save power (0 195). The
display can be reactivated by pressing the shutter-release button.
• The camera is connected to a computer (0 130) or television (0 136).
The camera turns off without warning:
• The battery is low (0 14, 27).
• The display has turned off automatically to save power (0 195). The
display can be reactivated by pressing the shutter-release button.
• The camera's internal temperature is high (0 xxii, 230). Wait for the
camera to cool before turning it on again.
Indicators are not displayed: Press the $ button (0 7).

Shooting (All Modes)

The camera takes time to turn on: Delete files or format the memory card.
The shutter-release is disabled:
• The battery is exhausted (0 14, 27).
• The memory card is locked (0 17) or full (0 27).
• The flash is charging (0 92).
• The camera is not in focus (0 29).
• You are currently filming a slow-motion movie (0 69).
Only one picture is taken each time the shutter-release button is pressed in continuous
release mode: 5 fps is selected for Continuous/self-timer and the built-in
n
flash is raised.
