Install the rop ring

facing up.
PISTON RING INSTALLATION
Clean the piston grooves thoroughly.
Apply engine oil to the piston rings and install them .
.. Do not damage the piston r ing by spreading the
ends too far.
.. Be careful not to damage the piston during pis-
ton ring installation .
.. Do not align the oit ring (side rails) gaps .
• Space the piston ring end as shown.
After installation, the rings should rotate freely in
the ring grooves.

PISTON INSTALLATION
When cleaning the
cylinder mating
surface, place a
shop rowel over the
cylinder opening to
prevent dust or dirt
from emen'ng the
engine.
Be careful not to
drop the piston pin
cl(o into the
crankcase.
Clean any gasket material f rom the cylinder mating
or:= ;.. -u
surfaces of the crankcase.
Apply molybdenum solution oil to the connecting
rod small end.
Place a shop towel around the piston skirt and in the
crankcase to prevent the piston pin clips from falling
into the crankcase.
Apply engine oil to the piston pin outer surface and
piston pin hole of the piston.
Install the piston with the "IW mark facing intake
side.
Install the piston pin and new piston pin cl ips.
• Always use new piston pin clips. Reinstalling
used piston pin clips may lead to serious engine
damage.
Do not align the piston pin clip end gap w ith the pis-
ton cut-out.
