Take the vehicle tool kit and the jack from
X
the footwell on the co-driver's side
(
page 276).

Remove the spare wheel from the spare
X
wheel bracket (
page 314). Observe the
Y
safety notes in the "Spare wheel" section
(
page 313).
Y
On wheels with wheel bolts, remove the
X
hub caps.
Assemble the lug wrench extension using
X
the middle rod and the rod with the largest
diameter from the three-piece jack pump
lever.
Starting with the middle rod, slide the lug
X
wrench extension as far as it will go onto
the lug wrench.
Using lug wrench :, loosen the wheel
X
bolts/wheel nuts on the wheel to be
changed by about one full turn. Do not
unscrew the wheel bolts/nuts completely.
Raising the vehicle
G
WARNING
If you do not position the jack correctly at the
appropriate jacking point of the vehicle, the
jack could tip over with the vehicle raised.
There is a risk of injury.
Only position the jack at the appropriate jack-
ing point of the vehicle. The base of the jack
must be positioned vertically, directly under
the jacking point of the vehicle.
Changing wheels
G
WARNING
On uphill and downhill slopes, the jack could
tip over with the vehicle raised. There is a risk
of injury.
Do not change wheels on uphill or downhill
gradients. Notify a qualified specialist work-
shop.
! Only position the jack on the jacking
points intended for this purpose. You could
otherwise damage the vehicle.
Observe the following when raising the vehi-
cle:
When raising the vehicle, only use the jack
R
which Mercedes-Benz has specifically
approved for your vehicle.
The vehicle's jack is intended only to raise
R
the vehicle for a short time when changing
a wheel. It is not suited for performing
maintenance work under the vehicle.
Avoid changing the wheel on uphill and
R
downhill slopes.
Before raising the vehicle, secure it from
R
rolling away by applying the parking brake
and inserting wheel chocks. Never disen-
gage the parking brake while the vehicle is
raised.
The jack must be placed on a firm, flat and
R
non-slip surface. On a loose surface, a
large, load-bearing underlay must be used.
On a slippery surface, a non-slip underlay
must be used, e.g. rubber mats.
Make sure that the distance between the
R
underside of the tires and the ground does
not exceed 1,2 in(3 cm).
Never place your hands or feet under the
R
raised vehicle.
Never lie under the raised vehicle.
R
Never start the engine when the vehicle is
R
raised.
Never open or close a door when the vehi-
R
cle is raised.
Make sure that no persons are present in
R
the vehicle when the vehicle is raised.
