HDD standby
You can specify a time after which the hard disk switches off if inactive. This option
saves power and should be used. As soon as the hard disk is required, for example for
an overnight recording, it switches itself back on again automatically.

Select and confirm one of the following options:
u
20 min = Switch off after 5 minutes of inactivity.
u
60 min = Switch off after 30 minutes of inactivity.
u
120 min = Switch off after 2 hours of inactivity.
Once the hard disk is switched off, it requires some time to reach full operational read-
iness after it is requested again. The start time of a spontaneous recording may be
somewhat delayed in this case.
HDD information
If you would like to know whether the hard disk still has free storage capacity, for exam-
ple for recordings in the case of longer absences, you can check the HDD information.

> Settings > Hard Disk > HDD Information
You will see the following information:
u
Hard Disk Capacity: xx GB = Overall storage capacity of disk in GB
u
Capacity used: xx GB = Amount of memory already written in GB
u
Capacity free: xx GB = Available memory in GB
Common Interface (optional)
The Settings > Common Interface menu is only available if a CA module with a smart
card is installed in the Common Interface (see "Installing the CA Module and Smart
Card" on page 23).
CA modules are equipped with their own device software. The modifiable settings and
possibly other information on the installed CA module can be found in the Common
Interface menu and also changed here if required. Your changes are generally saved
directly in the device software of the CA module and are therefore preserved even after
the module is changed.
The handling in the Common Interface menu as well as the type and scope of the avail-
able settings are module-specific. Make sure therefore to check the user guides that you
received with your CA module and with your smart card.
