Operating a DVD Device and Video Recorder

If you have connected a DVD player, DVD recorder or video recorder to your set-top box,
you can for example view a film from a DVD or a video cassette, record a programme or
save a stored recording.

Viewing a DVD or Video Cassette

The signals from the device connected to the second SCART port (VCR) on your set-top
box are received via the AV channel. This can, for example, be a DVD device or a video
recorder:
u
In normal mode, your set-top box switches automatically to the connected device
as soon as it gets a reception signal from this connected device.
u
In standby mode of the set-top box, the signal from the connected device is for-
warded directly to the television.

Recording to DVD or Video Cassette

When recording to a DVD/VCR device, the current screen display of the set-top box is
always recorded. This means that a displayed info bar or a menu as well as a displayed
volume bar can later be seen in the recording. You must not switch to a different chan-
nel or to the menu during a recording, because these actions will also be recorded.
Manual Recording
1. Choose the desired channel on your set-top box.
2. Start the recording with your recorder as usual.
Programmed Recording
Some video or DVD recorders can start a recording automatically when they receive an
appropriate signal from a connected device (SCART signalling via PIN 8). Your set-top
box supports this function assuming the corresponding DVD/VCR device is connected to
the VCR port.
1. Programme the desired timer recording with your set-top box. Select the storage lo-
cation External (e.g. DVD recorder), see "Programming a Timer Recording" on
page 48.
2. Set up the DVD/VCR device such that an automatic recording can be started from a
connected device.
