Removing or Replacing a PCI Hot Plug
Expansion Board
To remove or replace a PCI Hot Plug expansion board:
1. Open the top access panel of the server.
2. Use the PCI Hot Plug button or software application to turn off power to
the slot. The green LED indicator will flash during the power-down
transition and will turn off when the power-down process is complete.
For more information about PCI Hot Plug LED indicators, see "PCI Hot
Plug LEDs" earlier in this chapter.
CAUTION: To avoid system power-down and subsequent data loss, DO NOT
open the slot release lever unless the slot's green PCI Hot Plug LED indicator is
off.
3. Disconnect the cables to the PCI/PCI-X board when the slot's green
LED indicator is off.
4. Open the slot release lever and snap open the self-latching L-shaped slot
keeper at the far end of the board.
5. Remove or replace the board.
6. If only removing the board, install an expansion slot cover.
7. If replacing the board, connect the cables to the PCI/PCI-X board.
8. Close the slot release lever. Ensure that the lever latches into the closed
position.
9. If replacing the board, return power to the slot through the PCI Hot Plug
button or software application. The green LED indicator will flash
during the power-up transition and will turn on when power-up is
complete. For more information about PCI Hot Plug LED indicators, see
"PCI Hot Plug LED Indicators" earlier in this chapter.
10. Close the top access panel.
