Powering Up the Server

When you power up the server, it should go through the following sequence.
Record any discrepancies and any error messages that appear:
1. Turn on the machine by pressing the momentary contact switch. The
system LED indicator should blink to indicate that the system is trying
to power up. If the LED does not blink when the power button is
pressed, then either one of the system components is improperly
installed or there is no main power applied to the system power supplies.
If the System LED indicator is amber, check the System Interconnect
Status Indicators, explained earlier in this chapter.
If the System LED indicator blinks once every 10-20 seconds, the
system is trying to start but may have experienced an electrical short.
Refer to the "System Short" section in the Compaq Servers
Troubleshooting Guide.
2. Check the power supplies. The following settings indicate that the
power switch is on and the power supply is in a "power-on" delay mode:
G
Top LED indicator begins flashing (green)
G
Bottom LED indicator is on (solid green)
3. If the power supply top LED indicator does not begin flashing (the
server will not power up), see the "System Interconnect Status
Indicators" section earlier in this chapter.
4. When the top LED indicator turns solid green, listen for the fans to start.
5. The hard drive LED indicators should blink. If the LED indicators do
not light up, verify that the hard drives are fully installed in the system.
