Belt force limiters
Loa d limiters on the front sea ts reduce the
impac t on the seat occupant's body from a
tensioning b elt, in the ev ent of a sev ere
frontal collision. The belt force is controlled,
to red uce the risk of b elt-inflicted injury .
Inspection of belts
Periodically inspect all parts of the b elt
system for damag e and to mak e sure they
are functioning properly.
Hav e da maged parts replac ed. After an
accident, belts a nd trig gered belt
tensioners must b e replaced by new ones.
Do not perform a ny alterations on the
belts, their anchora ges, the autom atic
retractors or the b elt buckles.
Make sure that belts are not dam aged or
trapped by sharp-edged objects.
Belt tensioners
The seat b elt systems on the front seats
incorporate belt tensioners housed in the
belt buck les and seat belt retra ctors.
In the event of frontal collisions or side-
impacts of a certain severity , belt buckles
and seat belt retractors tighten the seat
belts; the shoulder and lap belts a re
instantaneously tightened to fit the
oc cup ant' s b od y more snugly.
The belt buckles and seat belt retractors
will rema in lock ed a fter actuation (where
some noise will occur and smoke may be
relea sed).
Belt tensioners are not d esigned to activate
in the event of rear-im pacts, minor side-
impacts, rollovers or minor frontal
collisions.
Actuation of belt tensioners
The belt tensioners actuate only onc e and
must be replac ed b y a work shop after
activa tion.

Warnin g
The belt tensioners a re operational only
when control ind icator v is unlit.
If the control indicator does not flash
briefly w hen the ignition is on, stay s lit,
illuminates or flashes whilst driving, the
belt tensioners or the a irb ag systems may
not function correctly.
Have both systems inspected by a
workshop.
The seat belts remain fully opera tional
even w hen the belt tensioners ha ve been
actuated.
