Adjustments
Neverattempt to makeany adjustmentswhile the engine is running, except
where specified in the operator's manual.
Levelingthe Deck
NOTE: Check t he tractor'stire pressure before performinganydeckleveling
adjustments. R efer t o Tires, inthis Service A ndMaintenance s ectionformore
information r egarding tire pressure.
Front ToRear
It ispossible to adjustthe pitchof thecutting deck.The front of the deckshouldbe
between0" (level)and1_,, l owerthanthe rearof the deck.Adjustif necessary a s
follows:

With thetractorparkedona firm, levelsurface, p lace the leverforlifting the
cuttingdeckinto the middleposition(3)androtatethe bladesothat it is
alignedwith thefront andrearof the tractor.
Measure the distance from the front ofthe bladetip to the groundandthe
rearofthe bladetip to the ground.Thefirst measurement takenshouldbe
between0" (level)and1_,, l ess than thesecond measurement. Determine
the approximate distance necessary f or properadjustment a ndproceed, if
necessary, to the next step.
Locate the flangelocknut on the front endof the PTO Lift Rod. S eeFigure 41.
Tighten the flangelocknut to raisethe front of the deck;
Loosen the flangelocknut to lowerthe front of the deck.

Parking BrakeAdjustment
Neverattempt to adjustthe brakeswhile the engine isrunning. Always
disengagePTO (BladeEngage Lever), m oveshift leverinto neutralposition,
stop engine and removekeyto preventunintended starting.
Ifthe tractordoesnot cometo acompletestopwhenthe clutch-brake pedal i s
completely depressed, or ifthe tractor'srearwheels canroll withthe parkingbrake
applied,the brakeisin needofadjustment.Contact t he nearest P arts & Repair
Service C enter t o haveyourbrakes serviced.

Changing the Transmission D rive Belt
NOTE: Several components mustberemoved andspecial t ools(i.e.air/impact
wrench)in orderto change the tractor'sdrivebelt. Contact t he nearest P arts &
Repair S ervice Center t o haveyourtransmission d rivebelt serviced.

Muffler
Temperature of muffler and nearby engine areasmayexceed150° F(65°C).
Avoidcontactwith theseareas.
Inspect m ufflerperiodically, andreplace if necessary. Replacement parts
forthe mufflermustbethe sameandinstalledin thesamepositionasthe
originalparts.
Clean Engine
Daily or beforeeveryuse, c leangrass, c haffor accumulated debris from
engine.Keep linkage, s pring,andcontrolsclean.
Keep a rea around andbehind mufflerfree ofanycombustible d ebris.
Keeping enginecleanallowsair movement a roundengine.
Engine partsshouldbe keptcleanto reduce the riskof overheating and
ignitionof accumulated d ebris.
Donotusewater to cleanengine parts. Watercould contaminatefuel
system.Usea brushor dry cloth.
Carburetor Adjustment
The carburetor onthisengine isnotadjustable.
Battery

If removingthe battery, disconnectthe NEGATIVE (Black)wire from its
terminal first, followed bythe POSITIVE ( Red) w ire. Whenre-installing
the battery, alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE ( Red) w ire to itsterminal first,
followed by the NEGATIVE (Black)wire.
