Adjusting
the Seat
Toadjustthe positionof the seat,pull up and holdthe seatadjustment
lever.Slidethe seat forwardor rearwardto the desiredposition;then
releasethe adjustmentlever.Makesureseat islockedintoposition
beforeoperatingthe riding mower.See Figure9.

GAS AND OIL
Fuel Recommendations
Use automotive gasoline(unleaded or low leadedto minimizecombus-
tionchamberdeposits)with a minimumof 87 octane.Gasolinewith
up to 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)can be
used. Neveruse an oil/gasolinemixtureor dirty gasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt, dust,or waterin the fueltank. DONOT use E85gasoline.
Refuelin a well-ventilated areawith the enginestopped.Donot
smokeor allowflamesor sparksin the area wherethe engine is
refueledor wheregasolineis stored.
Do notoverfillthe fuel tank.After refueling,make surethetank
cap is closedproperlyand securely.
Be carefulnot to spill fuelwhen refueling.Spilledfuel or fuelvapor
may ignite.If any fuel is spilled,makesurethe area is dry before
startingthe engine.
Avoidrepeatedor prolonged contactwith skinor breathing of vapor.
Adding
Fuel
Use extremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
flammableand the vaporsare explosive.Neverfuelthe ridingmower
indoorsor whilethe engineis hot or running.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipesand othersourcesof ignition.

Be sureengineis outdoorsandin a well-ventilated area.
2.
Cleanareaaroundthefuelfillcap and remove the fuelfillcap.
3.
Usingan approvedredGASOLINE container,addfuel slowly, b eing
carefulto avoidspilling.
4.
Fillthetank untilthefuel reaches the bottomof the fueltankneck.
5.
Replace thefuel capand tightensecurely. W ipeup spilledfuel
beforestartingengine.If fuelis spilledDO NOTstartengine.Move
ridingmowerawayfromareaof spillage. A voidcreatinganysource
of ignitionuntilfuelvaporsare gone.
Checking
and Adding
Oil
Yourridingmoweris shippedwith oil in the engine.However, y ouMUST
checkthe engineoil levelbeforeeach useas instructedin the I

Serviceand Maintenance section.Add oil as necessary.Failureto do I

Placethe riding moweron a flat,level surface.
2.
Removethe oil filler cap/dipstickand wipe thedipstickclean. See
Figure10.

Insertthe cap/dipstickintothe oil filler neck,but do not screwit in.
4.
Removethe oil filler cap/dipstick.If the levelis low,slowlyadd oil
untiloil level registersbetweenFULLand ADD,Figure9.
NOTE:Do notoverfill.Overfillingwith oil maycause smoking,hard
starting,or spark plugfouling.
5.
Replaceand tightencap/dipstickfirmly beforestartingengine.
NOTE:DO NOTallowoil levelto fall belowthe ADD markon the
dipstick.Doingso may resultin equipmentmalfunctions or damage.
NOTE:Tochangethe oil in your engine,seethe Serviceand
Maintenance sectionof this manual.
