TRANSMiSSiON
DRIVE BELT
Severalcomponents must be removedand specialtools usedin
orderto changethe riding mower'stransmissiondrivebelt. See your
SearsServiceCenteror to scheduleservice,simplycontactSearsat
1-800-4-MY-HOME®.
RIDING MOWER
CREEPING
Creepingis the slightforwardor backwardmovement o f the riding
mowerwhentheengine is runningat high idle and the drivecontrol
leversare openedout in the neutralposition.
If afteroperatingthe riding mowerfor some time,it beginsto creep
whilein the neutralposition,adjustthe transmissioncontrol rodsas
follows.
1.
Placethefront of the ridingmoweragainstan immovableobject
(e.g.wall, post,etc.).
2.
Jackup the rearof the ridingmowersothat bothrear wheelsare
approximately one inch of the ground.
3.
With theengine runningat high idle and thedrive control
leversopenedout in the neutralposition,and the parkingbrake
disengaged, c heckthe rearwheelsfor rotation.
4.
If onlyone wheelis rotating,locatethetransmissioncontrol rod
beneaththe frameat the front of the reartire. If bothwheels
rotate,locate bothcontrolrods. See Figure42.

Removetheflangelock nut and hex screwsecuringthe transmis-
sioncontrol rod to thetransmissioncontrol arm.Wheelrotation
shouldstop.If it doesnot, call the CraftsmanHelp Lineat
1-800-659-5917.

If the rotationstops,adjustthe controlrod up or downas
necessaryto align with the hole in the transmissioncontrolarm.
Re-insertthe hexnut intothe hole in the controlarmand secure
with the hexlock nut.
If necessary,repeatthe previoustwo stepsto adjustthe other
transmissioncontrolrod.
RIDING MOWER
HIGH SPEED TRACKING
1.
If the riding mowertracks to one sidewith bothdrivecontrollevers
fully forward,adjust thecontrol leversas follows:

Checkfor properand balancedair pressurein bothfrontand rear
tires. Refilltires if necessary.
3.
Performthe firstthree stepsin the previoussub-section,Riding
mowerCreeping,to verifythat the ridingmoweris not creeping.If
creeping,adjustfollowingthe instructionsin that sub-section.
4.
Recheckthe trackingafter makinganyadjustmentsto the
transmissioncontrol rods.
5.
If uneventrackingpersists,notewhichdirectionthe riding mower
istracking.
6.
If the riding mowertracks to the right,adjust thecontrol leverstop
bolton the left side.
7.
Ifthe riding mowertracks to the left,adjust thecontrol leverstop
bolton the rightside.
8.
Locatethe applicablestop bolton the left or rightconsole.See
Figure43.

Loosenthejam nut on the stop bolt, thenturn the stopbolt
counterclockwise to make it longer.Recheckthe trackingandfine
tune theadjustmentas necessary.
NOTE:If thestopboltisadjusted toofar,thetrackingproblem willchange
sides.Makefinetuningadjustments byshortening thesamebolt.
10. Tightenthejam nutagainstthe consoleand repositionthe control
leveras necessaryto makethetwo controlhandlesevenwith
eachother.

Lowerthe ridingmowerand removethejack.
