Beforeperformingany maintenance or repairs,disengagethe PTO,
movethe drivecontrolleversfully outwardin the neutralposition,
engagethe parkingbrake,stop theengineand removethe key to
preventunintendedstarting.
Draining
the Oil
1.
Runthe enginefor a short time to warmthe engineoil. The oil
will flow morefreelyand carry away moreimpurities. Usecare to
avoidburnsfrom hotoil.
2.
Locate theoil drainvalveon theleft sideof theengine. S ee Figure 23.

Thoroughly wash yourhandswith soapand wateras soon as
possibleafter handlingusedoil.
Check Engine
Oil
1.
Checkoil beforeeachuse. Stopengineand wait severalminutes
beforecheckingoil level.With engineon levelground,the oil must
be to FULLmarkon dipstick.
2.
Referto the Assemblysectionof this manualfor instructions on
checkingthe oil.
Change
Engine Oil and Filter
Referto the viscositychart (Figure22) foroil recommenda-
tions.Do notoverfill.SAE30 is recommended for general,all
temperatureuse. Usea 4-stroke,or an equivalenthigh detergent,
premiumquality motoroil certifiedto meetor exceedU.S.
automobilemanufacturer's requirements for serviceclassification
SF,SG,SH, SJ or higher.Motoroils classifiedSF,SG,SH, SJ will
showthis designationon thecontainer.

exposethe drain port. Referto Figure23. Removethe oil fill cap/
dipstickfrom the oil fill tube.

Pushtheoil drainhose(packed withthismanual)ontotheoildrain
port.Route theopposite endd thehoseinto an appropriate oil collec-
tioncontainer w ithat leasta 2.5quartcapacity, to collectthe usedoil.
5.
Turnthe oil drainvalve1/4-turn, t henpulloutwardto begindraining
oil. Aftertheoil hasfinisheddraining,pushtheend of theoil drain
valvebackin andturn 1/4-turn to secureitbackin place.Re-capthe
end of theoil drainvalveto keepdebrisfromenteringthedrain port.
6.
Cleanthe areaaround theoil filter.Placea containerunderthe
filter to catchany oil and removethefilter.See Figure24.
