Adjusting the Seat
Beforeoperating the tractor, makesurethe seat isengagedin theseat-
stop. Engagethe parkingbrake.Standbehindthe machineandpull back
on seat until it clicks intoplace.
Toadjustthe positionofthe seat,lift the seatadjustmentleverup.Slide the seat
forwardor rearwardto the desired position;thenrelease the adjustmentlever.
Makesureseatislocked into positionbeforeoperating the tractor.SeeFigure Z

Equal t ire pressureshouldbe maintained at all times. Referto the tire
sidewallfor proper pressure.
Thetiresonyourtractormaybeover-inflated for shipping purposes. Reduce the tire
pressure before operatingthe tractor.Check t he sidewall o f tire for maximum p.s.i.
NOTE: Equal t ire pressure iscriticalforlevelcuttingdeckperformance.
Connectingthe Battery
Cables

Whenattaching battery cables,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE ( Red)wire to
itsterminalfirst, followed bythe NEGATIVE (Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons, bothbatterycables on yourequipmentmayhavebeenleft
disconnected f rom the terminalsat the factory.Toconnect t he batterycables,
proceed asfollows:
NOTE: ThepositivebatteryterminalismarkedPos. ( +).Thenegativebattery
terminalismarkedNeg. ( -).
Remove t he plastic cover, i f present, f romthe positivebatteryterminaland
attachthe redcableto the positive batteryterminal(+) with the bolt and
hexnut.SeeFigure 8.

attachthe black cableto the negative batteryterminal(-) with the bolt and
hexnut.SeeFigure 8.
Position the redrubberbootoverthe positivebatteryterminalto help
protectit from corrosion.

of battery,chargethe batteryasinstructedinthe Service sectionyour
Operator's M anual p riorto operatingthe tractor.
Setting the DeckWheels
Keephandsandfeet awayfrom the dischargeopeningof the cutting deck.
NOTE: Thedeckwheels areananti-scalp featureof the deckandarenot designed to
supportthe weightof the cuttingdeck.
Movethe tractoron afirm andlevelsurface, p referablypavement, andproceed as
follows:
Check t he tire pressure, makesurethe pressure iscorrect a ndequal o n all
tires.
Makesurethe deckislevel,bothfront-to-back andside-to-side. S ee the
Maintenance & Adjustments sectionfordecklevelinginformationand
instructions.
Select t he heightpositionof the cuttingdeckbyplacingthe decklift leverin
the normallydesiredmowingheightsetting.
NOTE: Ifthe positivebatterycableisalready attached,skipaheadto step2.
