CAUTION
When
working
near
the
blade, wear heavy leather
gloves to protect yourself
from the sharp edges on the
blade.
To Install Belt:
A. Using needle nose pliers, re-
move the spring (A, Figure 5-11)
from the Blade Brake Control
mechanism.
B. Remove the other Blade Brake
Control
spring (B) and cable.
C. Remove tension on the drive
belt by pressing
down (hard) on
the rear of the drive pulley (C,
Figure 5-12).
Slip the belt off the
pulley.
D. Tip the mower rearward
until it
rests on the edge of the rear deck.
Secure the mower in place.
NOTE:
On some units, a metal
grass shield is installed
between
the mower blade and the
opening in the housing.
If so, it
will be necessary
to remove the
grass shield (and the mower blade)
before proceeding
to step E.
E. Remove
the hex head bolt (D)
shown in Figure 5-13.
F. Rotate the Blade Brake Control
arm (E, Figure 5-13) toward the
handlebars.
Note the holes (F) for
the spring and cable.
G. Rotate the mower blade until
one tip of the blade is toward the
front of the mower.
H. Carefully
slip the belt around
that tip of the blade.
Be careful
not to nick the belt while doing
this.
