FACE DETECTION (IF_ Only)
Intelligent Face Detection allows the camera to automatically detect human faces and set focus and
exposure for a face anywhere in the frame for shots that emphasize portrait subjects.
Choose for
group portraits (in vertical or horizontal orientations) to prevent the camera from focusing on the back-
ground.

When Intelligent FaceDetection is on, tile selected face is indicated by a green border (note
that, in some shooting modes, exposure isadjusted for tile current shooting mode and may
not be optimized for the selected subject). If more than one face is detected, the camera
will select tile face closest to tile center of tile frame; other faces are indicated by white bor-
ders (note that some time may be required for face detection if the number of faces is very
large). Intelligent Face Detection is recommended when using tile selfitimer for group- or
selflportraits (pg. 38).

When a picture taken with Intelligent FaceDetection is displayed, the camera carl automatically select faces for
red-eye removal (pg. 71),playback zoom (pg. 40), slide shows (pg. 70), printing (pg. 53),and cropping (pg. 73).
[M Cautions
• If no face is detected when tile shutter button is pressed halfway (pg. 19),the camera will focus on the subject
at the center of tile display and red-eye will not be removed.
• If the subject moves as the shutter button is pressed, their face may not be in the area indicated by tile green
border when tile picture is taken.
