V.34
V.34 is a communication mode used by the Super G3 fax. When a destination
or the C360/C280/C220 is connected to a line via PBX system, you may not
be able to communicate using Super G3 communication mode, depending
on the line conditions. In such circumstances, it is recommended that you
transmit by selecting V.34 OFF to set the Super G3 mode off. The V.34
mode will be resumed automatically on completion of the transmission.
V.34 is a protocol that allows communication at a speed of 33.6 Kbps and speeds
up the re-train time (transmit time) between pages of a communication to provide
you with an overall shorter transmit time and reduced phone costs. Another
component of the V.34 protocol that is standard on the C360/C280/C220
is JBIG data compression. This superior compression method contributes greatly
to shorter transmit time. Not all competitive products offer standard JBIG data
compression. Some manufacturers make it available as an option.
ECM OFF
Fax transmission can occur with ECM disabled. If there are many line disturbances,
the communication time may take a little longer when ECM is enabled. Error
Correction Mode (ECM) is a mode of transmission with error correction established
by the ITU-T (International Telecommunications Union). Fax machines equipped
with the ECM feature can communicate with each other and can confi rm that
the data transmission is free of errors. Thus communication can be made free
from disturbance due to line noises, etc. The C360/C280/C220 factory default
is ECM set for ON. It must be manually disabled if you wish to turn it off.
It is highly recommended that you keep ECM Mode ON. Although the
transmission may take slighter more time, ECM mode helps to make sure that
your communication can be read when it arrives at the receiving destination
because it tries to correct any errors encountered and resend any information
that encountered interference from the line noise.
