2) Log on to your ESXi host as the Administrator.
3) Enter the IP address or host name you noted earlier.
4) Enter the username root.
5) Enter the password used for the direct console. If the password was not set for the direct console, leave
the Password field empty.
6) Click "Login". A security warning appears.
7) To continue, click "Ignore".
Note: This security warning message occurs because the VI Client detected a certificate signed by the
ESXi* host itself (default setting). For highly secure environments, certificates generated by trusted
third party are recommended. Third party certificates can be set up later.

Adding Virtual Machines to the Host

After connecting to the host machine, a virtual machine can be added to the host. There are several ways to
add virtual machines to hosts. A new virtual machine can be built or a virtual appliance (a pre-built virtual
machine) can be imported from the VMware Web site. The VI Client "Getting Started" tab, shown in Figure
22, contains a "What is a Host?" section that provides steps for both options. If this is the first virtual
machine added to the host, VMware* recommends a virtual machine with an operating system already
installed and is ready to use be imported.
