3) Log in to the VirtualCenter Server* as the Administrator.
a) Enter the IP address or VirtualCenter Server* name.
b) Enter the Windows* Administrator user name.
c) Enter the Windows* Administrator password.
4) Click "Login".
After connecting to the VirtualCenter Server* with the VI Client, create a datacenter.

Creating a Datacenter

If logging in for the first time after connecting to the VirtualCenter Server* using the VI Client, there should
be no inventory items in the Inventory panel (left of the tabs panel). The first step in setting up a VMware*
Infrastructure* environment is to create a datacenter. To create a datacenter:
1) Select the root node Hosts & Clusters folder in the Inventory panel.

2) Follow the on-screen instructions in the "Getting Started" tab, and click "Create a datacenter". This
creates a datacenter.
3) Name the datacenter by selecting it and entering a name.
After a datacenter is created, add the ESXi* host to it.

Adding a Host

Now that a datacenter is created, a VMware* ESXi* host can be added. When adding a host to a datacenter,
it is under VirtualCenter* management. To add a host:
1) In the Inventory panel, select the just created datacenter.
