Supported port configurations in the HP StorageWorks DC SAN Backbone Director
and HP StorageWorks DC04 SAN Director
Some of the ports in the HP StorageWorks DC SAN Backbone Director and HP StorageWorks DC04 SAN
Director are not supported on all types of Logical Switches. The following is a list of which ports are
supported on which Logical Switches:
The base switch can have the following ports:
• E_Ports
• EX_Ports on 8-Gb/s port blades (EX_Ports on the B-Series Multi-Protocol Router Blade are not
supported in Logical Switches.)
• VEX_Ports
• VE_Ports
• ICL ports
NOTE:
VE_Ports in the base switch are not supported for carrying Logical Fabric traffic over XISLs.
The default Logical Switch can have the following ports:
• 8-Gb/s ports (F_Ports, E_Ports)
• FC ports on the B-Series Multi-Protocol Router Blade
• All ports on the HP StorageWorks SAN Director 6 Port 10Gb FC blade
• ICL ports
The default Logical Switch cannot use XISLs.
The default Logical Switch cannot be designated as the base switch.
A user-defined Logical Switch can have the following ports:
• 8-Gb/s ports (F_Ports, E_Ports)
• VE_Ports
VE_Ports and ICLs can be used in a Logical Switch only if the Logical Switch is not using XISLs.

VE_Ports are supported on the base switch only for carrying FCR traffic to VEX_Ports.
Interaction with Virtual Fabrics
Virtual Fabrics and Admin Domains are mutually exclusive and are not supported
at the same time on a switch. To use Admin Domains, you must first disable
Virtual Fabrics; to use Virtual Fabrics, you must first delete all Admin Domains.
A configdownload does not preserve Virtual Fabric information, such as the
configuration of Logical Switches. See Chapter 5,
page 173 for more information about how Virtual Fabrics affects the configuration
file.
Encryption functionality using the FS8- 1 8 blade is available only on the default
Logical Switch.
You cannot attach EX_Ports to a Logical Switch that has XISL use enabled. You
must use ISLs to connect the Logical Switches in an edge fabric.
Only 8-Gb/s ports are allowed to be used as FC router EX_Ports, with the
exception of VEX_Ports on the B-Series Multi-Protocol Router Blade.
See Chapter 17,
"Using the FC-FC routing
information about Virtual Fabrics and FC-FC routing.
Up to two Logical Switches per chassis can run FICON Management Server
(CUP), but the FICON Logical Switch must use ISLs and not XISLs.
