LAN Overview
The Configuration: LAN screen varies depending on the device type shown.
Local Area Network (LAN) is a shared communication system to which many computers are
attached. Use the LAN screens to configure a LAN DHCP server, manage IP addresses, and
partition a physical network into logical networks.
5.2 DHCP Setup
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, RFC 2131 and RFC 2132) allows individual
clients to obtain TCP/IP configuration at start-up from a server. You can configure the ZyXEL
device as a DHCP server or disable it. When configured as a server, the ZyXEL device
provides the IP configuration for the clients. If set to None, DHCP service will be disabled and
you must have another DHCP server on your LAN, or else the computer must be manually
configured.
5.2.1 IP Pool Setup
The ZyXEL device is pre-configured with a pool of 32 IP addresses starting from
192.168.1.33 to 192.168.1.64. This configuration leaves 31 IP addresses (excluding the
ZyXEL device itself) in the lower range for other server computers, for instance, servers for
mail, FTP, TFTP, web, etc., that you may have.
5.2.2 DNS Servers
Use the LAN IP screen to configure the DNS server information that the ZyXEL device sends
to the DHCP client devices on the LAN.
5.2.3 LAN TCP/IP
The ZyXEL device has built-in DHCP server capability that assigns IP addresses and DNS
servers to systems that support DHCP client capability.
5.2.4 Factory LAN Defaults
The LAN parameters of the ZyXEL device are preset in the factory with the following values:
