is not permitted, for example on highways.
Permanent status display
ç Gray: Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
selected but not yet active.
ç Green speedometer, gray vehicle: Active
Distance Assist DISTRONIC active, speed
set.
ç Green: Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
active and vehicle detected.
The stored speed is shown under the permanent
status display and highlighted on the speedome-
ter. When Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is
passive, the status display is grayed out.
If the speed of the vehicle in front or the speed
adjustment is less than the stored speed due to
the route event ahead, the segments in the
speedometer light up.
When the specified distance set

or reduced, the h display briefly appears.

The green ç vehicle symbol will be dis-
played cyclically when the vehicle is ready to
drive.

If you depress the accelerator pedal beyond
the setting of the Active Distance Assist
DISTRONIC, the system is switched to passive
mode. The following message appears briefly
on the driver's display ç Suspended.
System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function
in the following instances:
In snow, rain, fog, heavy spray, direct sunlight
R
or greatly varying ambient light, or if there is
glare.
If the windshield in the area of the camera is
R
dirty, fogged up, damaged or covered.
If the radar sensors are dirty or covered.
R
In parking garages or on roads with steep
R
uphill or downhill gradients.
If there are narrow vehicles in front, such as
R
bicycles or motorcycles.

In addition, on slippery roads, braking or acceler-
ating can cause one or several wheels to lose
traction and the vehicle could then skid.
Do not use Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC in
these situations.
& WARNING Risk of accident from accelera-
tion or braking by Active Distance Assist
DISTRONIC
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC may accel-
erate or brake in the following cases, for
example:
If the vehicle pulls away using Active Dis-
R
tance Assist DISTRONIC.
If the stored speed is called up and is con-
R
siderably faster or slower than the cur-
rently driven speed.
If Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC no
R
longer detects a vehicle in front or does
not react to relevant objects.
Always carefully observe the traffic con-

ditions and be ready to brake at all
times.
Take into account the traffic situation
#
before calling up the stored speed.
