Smocking

Choose a soft, lightweight fabric such as batiste,
gingham or challis. Cut the fabric three times wider than
the projected width.
NOTE:
The purple tip needle is recommended to prevent
skipped stitches.
Gathering
Sew rows of straight stitches, 1.5 cm (5/8˝) apart to
across the area to be smocked.
(1) 1.5 cm (5/8˝)
Tie the threads along one edge.
Pull the bobbin threads at the end to gather the fabric.
Knot the threads at the end and distribute the gathers
evenly.
Use an iron to press the gathered fabric.
NOTE:
Pull up the bobbin thread and draw a 10 cm (4˝)
thread tail to the back before starting to sew.
Use the thread cutter on the face plate.
Smocking stitch
Select a smocking stitch.
Sew the smocking stitches between the gathered rows.
Remove the straight stitches between the gathered rows.
