Automatic Code Entry
Inaddition t o manual codeselection using thebrand
name list,it isalso possible t o automafically search
through allthecodes thatarestored intheAVBremote's
libran/to seewhether a device will r espond evenif it
is notlisted among thebrands f:sat appear w henyou
program theremote manually. Toautomafically search
through thecodes thatareavailable foraspecific device
type(e.g.,DVD, VCR), tollowthese steps:
1.Turnonteepower t o thedevice youwish to
program intotheAVB remote, Thisisimportant
because i na later s tepyouwillneed to seewhether
thedewce turns offto determine whether t heremote
hasbeen programmed fortheproper r emote codes.
2. Pressandholdthe ProgramButton _
for
aboutthreeseconds whilethemessage shown
in Figure 24 appears inthe remote's LOD
Information DisplayO.
Release t he button
whenthe redlightunderthe Set Button
appears.

5.At thenextmenu screen onthe remote, press the

codesfor the product y ouaretryingto program
arenot intheAVRremote libran/and youwill
haveto "learn" t hemintotheremote following the
insl_ucfions showninthe nextsection. P ress the

to normal o peration, andwhenever youpress
the Input SelectorButton _

programmed, thecodestorthe newdevice will
beused.Ifno furtherbuttons arepressed, the
remote will revert b ackto the default s eltingfor
AVBcommands.
Learning Commands
Onoccasions w hentheAVRremote doesnotcontain
the codesfora particular p roduct's r emoteinits built
inlibran/, o r whenyou wishto program a missing or
special f unction intoonebuttonof a device, t heAVB
remote's learning capability a llows youto do that. T o
teachcommands f rom oneproduct's remote intothe
AVBremote:
TheAVR435's remote not onlyallows youto "learn"
inthe commands fromanycompafible r emote; i t also
allowsyouto learn a separate c odeintothe Input
SelectorButtons q_]D. T hisunique capability a llows
youto configure the remote sothatwhenever oneof
thesebuttons is pressed, the remote will notonly
selectthecodesforthatdevice for itself, b utit win
transmit a separately programmed r emote code.This
isparticularly v aluable w henyoursystem includes a
sourcesuchasa cablebox,satellite receiver o r DVD
player w ithan HDMI o r DVIoutputthatis connected
directyto yourvideodisplay. Byprogramming t he
d/sp/_y_ inputselection remote codeforthe specific
device, y oucan,forexample, pressthe VID3/Cable
InputSelectorButton E]P andnot onlyhavethe
AVBswitchto a cableset-topforaudioselection and
havetheAVRremote useremotecodesforthe cable
box,butyoucansenda codeto the display that
selects the HDMI o r DVIinputusedtora directcon-
nection between theset topandyourdisplay.
