CONFIGURING THE REMOTE
TheAVR435 remoteisfactoryprogrammed t or
all functions needed to operate theunit.Inaddition,
it isalsopreprogrammed to operate mostrecent
Harman Kardon DVDplayers andchangers, CD
player-s andchangers, CDrecorders a ndcassette
decks. Thecodesfor otherbranddevices maybe
programmed i ntotheAVR435 remoteusingits
extensive l ibraryof remote codesor a head-tohead
learning process forcodesnotin theinternal l ibrary.
Thanks to the remote's advanced t echnology a nd
lwo lineLCDdisplay, it is no longernecessary t o
lookup cumbersome c odeswhenprogramming t he
remote; f ollowing the stepsoutlined below, y ou simply
saaroh forthe brandnamefromthe remote's memory.
Werecommend t hatyoufirsttry the preprogrammed
codeentrymethod. I fthatprocedure is notsuccessful,
thentry thecodelearning method.
Preprogrammed Code Entry
Theeasbstwayto program the remote for operation
witha soume device from another b randisto follow
thesesteps:
1.Turnonthepower tothedevice youwish to pm
gramintotheAVRremote. This is important, asina
laterstep youwillneed toseewhether t hedevice
turns offto determine whether the remote hasbeen
programmed forthe proper r emote codes.
2. Press andholdthe ProgramButton _
for
aboutthreeseconds whilethemessage shown
inFigure 24 appears inthe remote's LCD
Information DisplayO.
Release t he button
whenthe redlightunderthe Set Button
appears.

of the remote's library at all,youmays111 usethe
remote to program mostinfrared-controlbd products
by "learning" thecommands fromtheproduct's
original r emote intotheAVRremote. Theinstructions
forLearning Commands a reon page44.
7. Thenextstepis important, asit determines w hich
codeswill opeTate the sourcedevice or display.

press andrelease the Numeric Keys0

on the menuscreen(Figure 29) oneat a time,
starting withthe "1" button. A fteryou pressthe

briefly go blankasthe codeis beingtransmitted.

codesmaystillbe storedinthe AVR remote's
library underanother b rand, a ndyoucan havethe
remote contral s earch for thembyfollowing the
instructions belowforautomatic programming. You
mayalsomanually " learn" t he codesfor most
devices intotheAVRremote byfollowing the
Learning Commands instructions o n page44.
10.Whenthe devicebeingprogrammed d oesturnoff
aftera numeric keyhasbeenpressed, y oumust
pressthe Set Button _
withinfiveseconds to
enterthe settingintotheremote's memory. After
youpressthe Set Button qi_iJ, t hetop lineof the
LCDdisplay will readSaUIttG... andthenthe
wordS,a, OEDwillflashfourtimesinthe centerof
the bottomline.
11.Whenthe codesaresaved, t he remotewillreturn
to normal o peration, andwhenever youpressthe
Input SelectorButton _
thatwasjustpro
g_ammed, thecodesforthe newdevicewillbe
used.If nofurtherbuttons arepressed, the
remote will revert b ackto the default s ettingfor
AVRcommands.
NOTE: S omebrandsshare a common remote conhol
codetot "Power O ff"for manymodels. F orthatreason
it is possible thateventhoughtheremoteappears to
beproperly programmed, you mayfindthatsomebut
tonsdo not appear t o issue the correct c ommand. If
thisisthe case,repeat t he procedure oullined above.
butif morethanonenumeric k eyselection issuggested
inStep7, try a different n umber t o seewhether t he
remote operates correctly. Although theAVRremote is
preprogrammed withanextensive l ibrary of codesfor
manymajorbrands, i t is alsopossible thatyoumay
have altempted to program a product t hatistoo new
