CONFIGURING THE REMOTE
rename theDSPSurroundMode SelectorO,
whichis normally n ot usedwhenDVDisselected,
sothatit reads ZOOMinthe remote's display.
1. Press andholdthe ProgramButton _
for
aboutthreeseconds whilethemessage shown
inFigure 24 appears inthe remote's LOD
Information DisplayO.
Release t he button
whenthe redlightunderthe Set Button
appears.
2. Theremote's M_IM MEtlU message (Figure 25),

4.Thenextdisplay screen(Figure 78) selects the
device withinwhichthe keyto be renamed exists.
Press the A/T NavigationButtons _
until
the nameofthe basedevice appears. Inour
example, since wewantto rename a bultonwithin
the DVD devicememory, Db_Dshouldappear i n
the lowerlineof the LCD. Whenthe desired
devicename appears, pressthe Set Button qi_,

7. Toenterthenewname for the key, p ressthe
NumericKeys_.
Thelettem above the
numbered b uttonsindicate whichletters or sym-
bolswillappear w henthe buttonis pressed during
the renaming process. Thefirstpressof the but-
ton willenterthe firstcharacter s hown, s ubsa
quentpresses will change thedisplay to the other
letters abovethatnumbered key,Forexample,
sincethefirstletterweneedto rename theTone
button to Zoomisa "Z,"soyouwouldlocate the
"Z"above the "9" button, a ndpressthe button
fourtimes. T hefirstpressshows a "W," t he subse-
quentpresses stepthrough the otherletters avail-
ableuntilthe "Z"appears. Consult the tableon
page50 to seewhichcharacters a reavailabb by
pressing a particular b utton.
8. Afteryouenterthe firstletterof thenewdevice
name, therearethreeoptions forentering the
nextcharacter:
a. Toentera letter thatrequires a different n umeric
keyto bepressed, s imply pressthatbutton.
Thecursorwillautomatically moveto the next
position andthe firstblteraccessed bythe new
buttonwillappealFollowing o urexample, the
nextletterneeded is an"0,"so youwouldpress
the"6" bultononce.
b.Toentera letter thatusesthesamenumeric
key, y ou mustfiratpressthe • Navigation

to the nextposition. Thenpressthe Numeric

Thisis thewayyouwouldenterthe second "0"

cursorto the right, a ndthesecond presswill
movethecursoronemorespaceto theright,
leaving a blankspacebelween the lastletter
andthe nextone.
9. Repeat S teps7 and8 asneeded to complete
entering the needed fatters, n umbers, characters
andspaces.
10.Whenthe textentryis complete, pressthe Set
Button qi_. Thenewname will be entered inb
the remete's memory, replacing the default n ame.
11. Atthispointyou havetwooptions:
a. If youwishto program anadditional keywithin
thesamedevice, p ressthe Set Button _
as
instructed b ythe bottomlineofthe LCDdisplay
reading _irtOTHER KEY,Theremote will
return to the SELECT 6 KEY menuoplon
asshowninStep6. Repeat t heinstrucllons i n
Steps6 though11 to rename thenextkey.
b.If youhaveno additional keysto rename, press

lineof the display. Press the Set Button
to _etum the remote to normal o peration.
NOTES ONRENAMING KEYS:
• Renaming a keydoesnot change its function. You
maychange the fsncSon ofan individual keyby
learning a newcodeintothe remote. S eepage44
for moreinformation.
• Whena keyis renamed it willonlyapplyto the
specific device salected in Step4. Thesamekey
maybe renamed asneeded for eachindividual
devicewithwhichit is used.
Resetting the Remote
Depending o n thewayinwhichthe remote hasbeer]
programmed, theremaybea silsation where youwish
to totallyerase all changes t hathavebeenmadeto
the remote and_etum it to thefactorydefaults. You
mayde thatbytollowing the stepsshown below,but
remember thatoncethe remote is reset, A LLchanges
thathavebeenmade,including programming f or use
withotherdevices, learned keys,macros, punch
through settings andkeynames, w illbe erased and
anysettings youhadpreviously madewill haveto be
reentered.

thesesteps:
