The rear panel Ethernet connector on the FOX 4G matrix
switcher can be connected to an Ethernet LAN or WAN.
This connection makes SIS control of the switcher possible
using a computer connected to the same LAN.

The Ethernet cable can be terminated as a straight-through cable or a crossover
cable and must be properly terminated for your application (figure A-1).

Default IP address

To access the FOX 4G matrix switcher via the LAN port, you need the switcher's
IP address. If the address has been changed to an address comprised of words and
characters, you can determine the actual numeric IP address using the ping utility.
If the address has not been changed, the factory-specified default is 192.168.254.254.
Ping can also be used to test the Ethernet link to the FOX 4G matrix switcher.
Pinging to determine the Extron IP address
The ping utility is available at the DOS prompt. Ping tests the Ethernet interface
between the computer and the FOX 4G matrix switcher. Ping can also be used to
determine the actual numeric IP address from an alias and to determine the web
address.

A cable that is wired as T568A at one end
and T568B at the other (Tx and Rx pairs
reversed) is a "crossover" cable.
On the Windows task bar, click on Start > Run.
At the Open prompt, type command.
Click the OK button.
At the DOS prompt, type ping {IP address} and then press
computer returns a display similar to the one shown on the next page.
The line Pinging ... reports the actual numeric IP address, regardless of
whether you entered the actual numeric IP address or an alias name.
