4. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 101.
5. Remove the system-board shield. See "Replacing the system-board shield" on page 102.
6. Locate the microprocessor. See "Computer components" on page 33.
7. Disconnect all cables connected to the system board.
8. Remove the heat sink. See "Replacing the heat sink" on page 122.
9. Press the small handle

10. Lift the microprocessor straight up and out of the microprocessor socket.
Notes:
• Your microprocessor and socket might look different from the one illustrated.
• Touch only the edges of the microprocessor. Do not touch the gold contacts on the bottom.
• Do not drop anything onto the microprocessor socket while it is exposed. The socket pins must be
kept as clean as possible.
