7. Route the card reader cable through the cable guide in the new I/O bracket.
8. Reinstall the bottom cover. See "Replacing the bottom cover" on page 86.

Replacing the I/O shield

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
To replace the I/O shield, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the slide cover. See "Removing the slide cover" on page 85.
3. Remove the bottom cover. See "Replacing the bottom cover" on page 86.
4. Remove the I/O bracket. See "Replacing the I/O bracket" on page 89.
5. Locate the I/O shield. See "Computer components" on page 31.
6. Remove the two screws that secure the I/O shield to remove it from the computer.
