8. Remove the three screws that secure the system fan to the computer. Then, lift the system fan to
remove it from the computer.

9. Align the three screw holes in the new system fan with the corresponding holes in the computer. Then,
install the three screws to secure the system fan to the computer.
10. Connect the system fan cable to the system fan connector in the system board. See "Parts on the
system board" on page 35.
11. Reinstall the system board shield. See "Replacing the system board shield" on page 97.
12. Reinstall the Orchid Tilt Stand. See "Replacing the Orchid Tilt Stand" on page 92.
13. Reinstall the bottom cover. See "Replacing the bottom cover" on page 86.

Replacing the system board

Attention: Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading and understanding the Chapter
1 "Read this first: Important safety information" on page 1.
Note: Each computer has a unique Vital Product Data (VPD) code stored in the nonvolatile memory on
the system board. After you replace the system board, the VPD must be updated. To update the VPD,
see "Updating the BIOS" on page 63.
To replace the system board, do the following:
1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the slide cover. See "Removing the slide cover" on page 85.
3. Remove the memory module. See "Replacing the memory module" on page 87.
4. Remove the bottom cover. See "Replacing the bottom cover" on page 86.
5. Remove the storage drive. See "Replacing the memory module" on page 87.
6. Remove the Orchid Tilt Stand. See "Replacing the Orchid Tilt Stand" on page 92.
7. Remove the system board shield. See "Replacing the system board shield" on page 97.
8. Remove the Wi-Fi card. See "Replacing the Wi-Fi card" on page 105.
