Setting up the VoIP Gateway to control the Call Progress Tone

1
For compatibility with Business Communications Manager, setup the VoIP Gateways so that
the destination endpoint sends call progress tones to source in band.
2
If you are using Auto Answer, you want the caller to hear the call progress tones (ringback,
busy) generated by Norstar into the trunk, NOT tones generated by the VoIP Gateway. This is
because the VoIP Gateway has no information on the status of the destination (ringing, busy).
3
Configure all of the VoIP Gateways so that the ringback tone is not generated at the source
gateway.

Setting up the VoIP Gateway to enable end to end DTMF tones

1
On the Quick Setup screen, set the Enable DTMF over H.245 parameter to YES.
The VoIP Gateway detects the DTMF tone, mutes the voice path and sends an H.245 message
"User Input Indication" for the key that was pressed.
The VoIP Gateway at the far end regenerates the DTMF and inserts it into the output voice
stream.
2
On the Channel Settings screen, set the DTMF Transport Mode parameter to Mute.
The DTMF Transport Mode is actually used to specify methods of supporting DTMF "in
band". Setting it to MUTE ensures that it does not interfere with out of band transport.
For DTMF over H.245 to work, you need an active H.245 session.
3
On the H.323 Protocol Definition screen, set the Connection Mode parameter to Fast Start.
Fast Start is used to setup a voice connection prior to connect. This is needed for connection to
Business Communications Manager.
With Fast Start, the VoIP Gateway must also establish the H.245 session in order to carry the
DTMF. With Slow Start, this is done automatically after the Connect.
