Clean the elements in warm soapy water (1), rinse and
allow to dry thoroughly, or clean with a high flash point
solvent and allow to dry.
Dip the elements in clean engine oil (2) and squeeze
out all the excess oil.
• Excess oil will restrict air flow through the foam
element and may cause the engine to smoke at
startup.
Do not twist to squeeze oil from the air cleaner element.
Twisting the element can damage it.
Install the air cleaner element (1) and outer filter
element (2) in the air cleaner case.
• Clean the air cleaner cover seal (3) and the air
cleaner case if necessary.
• Make sure that the air cleaner cover seal is set in the
groove of the air cleaner case.
Install the air cleaner cover (4).
• Set the air cleaner cover on the air cleaner case as
shown and tighten the cover 6 x 16 mm special
screw (5) to the specified torque.
TORQUE: 2.3 N·m (0.23 kgf·m, 1.7 lbf·ft)
SPARK PLUG CHECK/ADJUSTMENT
If the engine has been running, the engine will be
very hot. Allow it to cool before proceeding.
Loosen the 6 x 16 mm special screw (1) and remove
the muffler protector cover (2).
Remove the spark plug cap (3).
Remove the spark plug (1) using a spark plug wrench
(2).
