Retake (VHS Deck Only)
You can cut out unnecessary parts of a TV programme while
you're recording it.

Press PAUSE during recording.
LOCATE START POINT

Turn the JOG dial to the left or right (or hold down REW
or FF) and release it when you reach the point where
you want to resume recording.
* Your recorder returns to the Record-Pause mode.
RESUME RECORDING

Press PLAY when you wish to resume recording.
NOTES:
Retake function does not work during Direct Rec (
Noise may appear when Retake function is used at the part
that is recorded in EP mode.

Tape Remaining Time

(VHS Deck Only)
DISPLAY REMAINING TIME

Press – –:– – until the time remaining on the tape
appears.
The display panel shows the tape remaining time
with "
" displayed.
By pressing the – –:– – button, you can change the
display to show the counter reading (VHS deck only),
time code (DV deck only), channel position*, clock
time or tape remaining time (VHS deck only).
* channel position is not displayed during playback.
NOTE:
Depending on the type of tape used, there may be times when
the tape remaining time reading may not appear right away, or
is not correct. "– –:– –" may sometimes appear, or the display
may blink on occasion.

Super VHS (S-VHS),
Super VHS ET (S-VHS ET)
and VHS (VHS Deck Only)
Your recorder can record in S-VHS (Super VHS), S-VHS ET or
VHS.
To record in S-VHS:
Perform the steps 1 – 4 below to set "S-VHS" to "ON".
Then, insert a cassette marked "S-VHS". The S-VHS indicator
lights up on the front display panel.
The S-VHS recording mode is selected.
To record in S-VHS ET on a VHS cassette:
See "Super VHS ET (S-VHS ET)" on page 30.
To record in VHS:
Insert a cassette marked "VHS".
Press S-VHS ET on the recorder. You can check the current
setting ("S-VHS ET : ON" or "S-VHS ET : OFF") if "O.S.D." is set
to "ON" (
pg. 11). If "S-VHS ET : ON" appears on the TV
screen, press S-VHS ET again in about 5 seconds to set it to
"OFF".
The VHS recording mode is automatically selected regardless of
the "S-VHS" mode setting.
To record in VHS on an S-VHS cassette:
Insert the cassette marked "S-VHS". The S-VHS indicator will
light on the display panel.
Then, perform the steps 1 – 4 below to set the "S-VHS" to "OFF".
The S-VHS indicator goes off.
The VHS recording mode will be selected.

Press MENU.
NOTE:
When playing back a tape that has been recorded in S-VHS, the
S-VHS indicator lights on the display panel regardless of the
"S-VHS" mode setting.
