Platform Overload System

How to C alibr ate the Pl atform Overl oad System (if equipped)
How to Calibrate the Platform
Overload System
Calibration of the platform overload system is
essential to safe machine operation. Continued use
of an improperly calibrated platform overload
system could result in the system failing to sense
an overloaded platform. The stability of the
machine is compromised and it could tip over.
Note: Perform this procedure with the machine on
a firm, level surface.
1
Level the platform.
2
Determine the maximum platform capacity.
Refer to the machine serial plate.
3
Using a suitable lifting device, place an
appropriate test weight equal to that of the
maximum platform capacity at the center of
the platform floor.
Determine the limit switch trigger point:
4
Gently move the platform up and down by
hand, so it bounces approximately 1 to
2 inches / 2.5 to 5 cm. Allow the platform to
settle.
Result: The overload indicator light and the
alarm is on. Slowly tighten the load spring
adjustment nut by turning it clockwise just until
the overload indicator light and alarm turns off.
Note: The platform will need to be moved up and
down and allowed to settle between adjustments.
Note: There may be an approximate 2 second
delay before the overload indicator light turns on
and the alarm sounds.
Result: The overload indicator light and
alarm is off. Slowly loosen the load spring
adjustment nut by turning it counterclockwise
just until the overload indicator light and alarm
turn on.

Platform Components
Note: There may be an approximate 2 second
delay before the overload indicator light turns on
and the alarm sounds.
Note: The platform will need to be moved up and
down and allowed to settle between adjustments.
Confirm the setting:
5
Turn the key switch to platform control.
6
Lift the test weight off the platform floor using a
suitable lifting device.
7
Place the test weight back onto the center of
the platform floor using a suitable lifting
device.
Result: The alarm should be off. The platform
overload indicator light should be off at both
the ground and platform controls.
Note: There may be an approximate 2 second
delay before the overload indicator light and alarm
turn off.
8
Add an additional 10 lb / 4.5 kg test weight to
the original test weight to overload the
platform.
Result: The alarm should sound. The platform
overload indicator light should be flashing at
both the ground and platform controls.
Note: There may be an approximate 2 second
delay before the overload indicator light turns on
and the alarm sounds.
9
Test all machine functions from the platform
controls.
Result: All platform control functions should
not operate.
10 Turn the key switch to ground control.
11 Test all machine functions from the ground
controls.
Result: All ground control functions should not
operate.
Note: If the platform overload system is not
operating properly, repeat steps 1 through 4.
