In Windows 2000 Professional—
1. Select Start!Settings!Control Panel!Phone and Modem
Options!Modem tab.
2. Select your modem, then select Properties.
3. Select the General tab, then clear the Wait for Dial Tone
Before Dialing checkbox.

1. Select the Dialing Properties tab, then, in the Locations list,
select the location from which you are dialing.
2. Select the Edit button.
3. Select USA from the drop-down list in the Country/region
box.
4. Select the Apply button, then the OK button.
5. Select the Modem tab.
6. Select your modem, then select Properties!General tab,
then again clear the Wait for Dial Tone Before Dialing
checkbox.
